WHAT IS IT?
THE PURPOSE OR RATIONALE FOR THE PROPOSAL:
REQUIRED COMPONENTS OF THE PROPOSAL:
THE PROPOSAL: Core Components – See Examples for Further Clarification
For their Proposal, students should…
- a paper copy with their notes regarding the introduction, deadlines and questions.
***Failure to be prepared will result in this section needing to be redone, but at a time and date when the GT Advisor is available. This may hamper the progress of the student when deadlines are quickly approaching.
The Proposal and the Exit Interview
- The GT Proposal project will be completed individually prior to your deadline, and will be completed in the form of a conversation or interview regarding what your plans are after high school. (Specifically, the first year after high school.)
- You will be given an assigned date, and will need to formally prepare the following information in paper or electronic format, and bring these items with you during your interview time and date with your GT Advisor (either Ms. Taggart or Ms. Guy).
THE PURPOSE OR RATIONALE FOR THE PROPOSAL:
- To better prepare students by having them research and critically think about deadlines and goals for the coming year.
- To better organize students so that they can be as successful as they can in achieving their wishes of higher education, employment, or travel in their year(s) after high school.
REQUIRED COMPONENTS OF THE PROPOSAL:
- Participate in an interview on the provided date and time communicated with the student. (Or, if this date and time is in conflict, an alternate date and time must be proposed and communicated by the student that is mutually beneficial to their GT Advisor in advance – preferably 1-2 weeks in advance if known).
THE PROPOSAL: Core Components – See Examples for Further Clarification
- A point-form introduction on what they are hoping to achieve or do in the year after high school. For most students, their plans fall under “Post-Secondary”, “Employment” or “Travel”. (This needs to be as specific as possible. Such as, “Attend Camosun College’s Nursing Program”, or “Travel for 3 months in India.”). Alternate or back-up plans should also be addressed, along with where you are planning on living (and possibly working) during this year.
- The student should show that they have researched their chosen pathway, and has documented a list of at least 5 deadlines, or goals with deadlines (self-motivated) that they will follow to achieve this or these goal(s).
- The student will also need to brainstorm (after their research has been completed) a minimum of 5 questions that they still have about their future plans. These should be authentic questions – so questions that they are genuinely curious about. The GT Advisor will go through the questions with the students, and direct them on who to contact regarding these questions, or help prepare guidance for them as they navigate the beginnings of their adult lives.
For their Proposal, students should…
- Allocate at least a couple of hours to the research portion of this assignment. Remember, deadlines are important, particularly for universities/colleges, employment, or travel documentation. Be prepared so you can be successful.
- Be prepared on their date and time of their Proposal Interview. They should have either – a laptop with an electronic version of their notes regarding their introduction, deadlines and questions.
- The Proposal is the first step in planning and organizing yourself for a busy year ahead.
- The Exit Interview will be completed before May, and will be a follow-up to your proposal. Your GT Advisor will want to know if your plans changed, and if so, why? What have you achieved so that you can as successful for next year?
- Essentially, once your Proposal has been completed, do not throw out your notes on your plans for your future year after high school! You will need them for the last section for GT, but also for meeting your deadlines and goals…right?
